“I had a stroke in April 2020 and the bills topped $150,000. I was lucky to have great insurance paid mostly by my employer. If I hadn’t been in this position – had been laid off during the pandemic or didn’t have a job at all — my bills would have drowned me and created a lifelong financial disaster.
I want to help RIP Medical Debt. This nonprofit goes around the country buying packages of uncollected medical debt and FORGIVING IT. In doing so, they get people out from under the soul-sucking, emotionally crushing, life-handicapping circumstance of owing more money than you can possibly pay off JUST BECAUSE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE GOT SICK.

The Problem In the past forty years, medical costs have doubled, insurance copays and deductibles have spiked, and bankruptcy rates have quadrupled, creating an avalanche of destructive medical debt. Over 60% of bankruptcies in America have medical debt as a root cause. The situation is especially dire in Arizona.
